Collaborative Enquiry Training

We support school leaders and teachers to successfully implement the culture and practice of Collaborative Enquiry in their schools, to engage in practitioner research and work with colleagues to critically reflect on and refine practice.

Develop a collaborative enquiry culture within your school 

Participants will be supported to carry out an enquiry with colleagues over at least two terms. This training provides an opportunity for participants to engage in practitioner research and work with colleagues to critically reflect on practice.

  • Improve outcomes for pupils, particularly the most disadvantaged, through effective teacher development
  • Cultivate a culture of enquiry and critical reflection built on high quality professional conversations
  • Develop a research informed approach to teaching and learning
  • Provide opportunities for colleagues to share best practice and develop collective expertise

Who should apply?

Suitable for senior and middle leaders looking to:

  • Understand the mechanics of the Collaborative Enquiry model and
  • Learn how to successfully implement and engage in Collaborative Enquiry across your school, departments or phase
  • Gain a deeper understanding of each component of the Collaborative Enquiry cycle
  • Engage in practitioner research and work with colleagues to critically reflect on practice.

What is involved?

Across two terms a group of 8-12 participants from your school will:

  • Participate in 3 x  live webinar training sessions (3 hours per session)
  • Engage in asynchronous learning accessed via our virtual learning platform, TDT Learn (8 hours)
  • Adapt tools and resources to suit school context
  • Complete gap tasks and guided implementation activities
  • Benefit from email support and ongoing guidance from a TDT Professional Learning Lead
  • Support to design and implement an enquiry cycle in their setting alongside the course

Participants will be supported to create a vision for Collaborative Enquiry in their setting and will be prepared to implement this with supporting tools and resources. CPD Leads will be supported to ensure Collaborative Enquiry is implemented to have maximum impact.

    What does the programme cover?

    The training gives a through overview of the Collaborative Enquiry cycle, based on the principles of Lesson Study, and its place in the wider context of professional development

    • How to cultivate a culture of collaboration in our schools/ departments and enable effective professional learning conversations
    • Designing and implementing a collaborative enquiry project
    • Tools and resources to establish a collaborative enquiry approach in your context
    • Evaluating the impact of Collaborative Enquiry
    • Sharing and disseminating enquiry outcomes

    Participants will:

    • Explore each component of the Collaborative Enquiry cycle
    • Learn how to foster a whole-school culture of collaboration
    • Learn how to foster a culture of teacher enquiry and research-driven professional learning
    • Understand how to enable effective professional conversations amongst staff
    • Share and disseminate enquiry outcomes

    Gap task and asynchronous learning will provide opportunities for colleagues to:

    • Reflect on CPD Leadership, use of research, collaboration and culture in their settings
    • Engage in relevant wider reading around CPD leadership and to ‘lay the groundwork’ for the successful implementation of Collaborative Enquiry.
    • Practice and reflect on, each phase of the Collaborative Enquiry model alongside the course, with the guidance and support of a facilitator
