Effective professional development in schools helps teachers thrive and children succeed. We help schools and teachers access CPD that is impactful, evidence-based, and can be sustained over time. Through this, we support a strong professional culture where staff enjoy their work, feel intellectually stimulated, and are connected to a larger purpose.
While we recognise there are many important variables when it comes to improving our schools, The Teacher Development Trust focuses solely on continuous professional development. Effective staff development helps leaders to support and retain staff and to improve student outcomes.
This tight focus enables us to advise others and champion change confidently and with impartiality.
Our approach acknowledges the reality of school life. Time, energy, investment and whole school shifts are often needed to create lasting change and that is difficult for many schools in the current climate.
The charitable mission of the Teacher Development Trust is to make exceptional staff development achievable for every school. We help leaders build stronger schools through effective professional development.
In the UK, we are the national charity for improving professional development in schools. Through our CPD Leadership Hub, anyone can access our free reflection tool, along with a collection of resources which align with the evidence of what makes effective CPD. You can also access our research on topics including teacher autonomy, appraisal, and culture.
Much of what we offer is help, guidance, and training for those who lead CPD within an education setting. Some of our programmes work with school staff more widely to embed positive development approaches – such as Pedagogical Coaching – over time.
We also aim to inform what professional development entitlements and expectations for teachers should look like at a national level.
If you’re working on a project, event, or piece of research related to CPD in schools, we would love to connect with you. You can also find useful insights, resources, and additional information about great professional development inside our CPD Leadership Hub.
