Welcoming Andrea Carr as the new Chair of the Teacher Development Trust

The Teacher Development Trust (TDT) is delighted to announce the appointment of Andrea Carr as the new Chair of the Board of Trustees, taking over from Dame Sue John who will step down from the Board.

Andrea has been a trustee of TDT since 2019 and has chaired the Finance Committee since 2020.

An experienced business leader, Andrea has founded and led a number of successful education organisations, including Rising Stars, acquired by Hachette in 2015. She is director of Teacher Tapp, Educate Ventures Research, eyWorks and Education Albert in Sweden and brings a wealth of strategic, financial and sector expertise to her role at TDT. Andrea is also Vice Chair of the Impact Multi Academy Trust.

New Chair, Andrea Carr, said:

“I am delighted to be taking on the role of Chair. This is an exciting time for the Teacher Development Trust as it continues to shape thinking and support schools in the crucial area of teacher professional development. I am proud to have been part of the Board and look forward to leading trustees as they work with the team in the coming years. I would also like to pay tribute to Dame Sue John, who has been instrumental in steering the charity over the last five years, including through the tricky covid period. She is a towering figure in education and I have learnt much from working alongside her.”

Outgoing Chair, Dame Sue John, said:

“Chairing the Board at TDT has given me the opportunity to work with so many wonderful people and deepen my understanding of the importance of professional development for teachers and school leaders. I would like to thank my fellow trustees and the team at TDT – including of course the founder, David Monis-Weston – for working with such dedication. The values of TDT – smart, heart, and humble – have shone through my every experience here, and I know that, with Andrea and Gareth at the helm, TDT is in excellent hands for the future.”

CEO, Gareth Conyard, said:

“First, I would like to say thank you to Dame Sue. On a professional and personal level, she has been generous, wise, kind, and challenging in all the right ways. She is and will always be a key part of any successes TDT achieves. I am so pleased that Andrea has agreed to become the new chair. Having had the pleasure of working with her as a trustee, I know the astuteness and focus she will bring to the role of chair, which will help give the charity the momentum it needs to continue to deliver against its charitable mission.”
