It’s hard to see impact without knowing exactly what needs to improve.

Use our diagnostic tool to identify your school’s starting point, build on existing strengths and benchmark progress against our evidence-based framework.

TDT’s unique CPD diagnostic process (often referred to as the “CPD Audit”), is designed to help leaders assess the quality and culture of professional learning within a school or group of schools, providing clear direction for improvement and impact.

The in-depth, developmental and collaborative process uses an evidence-based framework underpinned by practices from the most effective schools. It maps leaders’ knowledge against anonymous staff survey results, while your expert auditor triangulates this with staff interviews and policy reviews.

What I particularly like about the TDT audit is the way it provides rigorous external feedback into what is working and what requires improvement. There is no spurious judgement, but rather crucial feedback about what staff think about their own school’s CPD and a cool appraisal of whether or not its culture and practices enable new learning to be enacted.”

TDT’s diagnostic framework is used to carry out an audit of the following seven domains of CPD, which are based on the international evidence of how professional environments in schools promote teacher development.

Culture and Wellbeing Focus Needs Analysis and Evaluation Internal Support and Challenge Use of Expert Knowledge Processes and Structures of CPD Use of Research, Evidence and Innovation

The diagnostic tool is deliberately rigorous and the majority of schools are working towards a Bronze when they first use the tool. Schools who achieve Bronze, Silver or Gold receive an award plaque to proudly demonstrate the strength of their commitment to staff development. We believe that every school can strive for Gold and have helped leaders use the TDT diagnostic tool to transform organisational culture and efficacy.

“The TDT CPD Audit helps to cut through all initiatives and helps you prioritise what’s important”

Michael Watson, Headteacher of Hunter’s Bar Junior School

Following the review, leaders work with our expert coaches to create a long-term change plan; identifying, implementing and embedding sustainable steps to achieve staff buy-in and put effective teacher development at the heart of school improvement. TDT Network members receive a year’s worth of support including termly coaching calls with our experts, who help leaders to evaluate their impact and track progress against their plans.
