The Teacher Development Trust welcomes today’s publication by the Department for Education of “Building Evidence in to Education“, a report by Dr Ben Goldacre.

Commenting on the launch, TDT Chief Executive David Weston said:

“Ben is absolutely right to call for a step-change in the way that the education world uses evidence to inform policy and practice. We not only need to make the existing evidence more easily available to teachers but must also help teachers become skilled and critical users of evidence and evaluation in their own work. This will require a huge cultural shift in a profession where it is still seen as perfectly acceptable and relatively common-place to indulge in discredited practices such as labelling pupils with fixed learning styles or practising ‘Brain Gym’. We need a system-wide effort from all stakeholders to make rapid and sustained changes.

At the Teacher Development Trust we’re delighted to be working with the Education Endowment Foundation to help schools and teachers locate the best expertise and professional development to support their Teaching and Learning Toolkit via our free database of CPD, and working with the National College and the NUT to foster collaborative, evaluated and evidence-based teacher enquiry via our National Teacher Enquiry Network pilot.”
