6c – Teachers engage in enquiry

Meaning – Staff are involved in some form of teacher enquiry, such as Lesson Study, practitioner enquiry, action research etc. This process should be collaborative and it should be very much focussed on solving a pupil learning issue, or building on a pupil strength.

What might this look like in practice?

All staff are part of professional enquiry groups (PEGs) that focus on a particular learning issue, explore the research around solving that issue, and experiment and evaluate various approaches. The professional enquiry groups run over a whole year. One of these groups (10 people) is a Lesson Study group, which is a process with similar concepts but requires a greater time commitment and is more carefully evaluated and focussed.
