CPD Diagnostic Tool

The TDT Network CPD Diagnosis is a formative and developmental process designed to give your organisation an overview of how effectively your current CPD processes and structures are working, and give you a baseline measure so that you can track and evaluate the changes in your organisation.

This process is based on a very rigorous framework that sets a very high standard. This means we expect most of our schools to be working towards a bronze level award, as the framework is deliberately challenging.

Every member has access to the digital audit, although many schools will also have chosen to have the full audit.

The audit is comprised of three elements:

  1. An online self-evaluation form completed by the senior leadership team.
  2. An online, whole-staff survey to examine perceptions and attitudes of staff (anonymous and including support staff).
  3. A report that can then be used alongside the TDT team and the online resource bank to develop your CPD processes.

The digital audit is available at audit.tdtrust.org

The CPD Audit is based on our Quality Framework, which is a summary of the evidence behind effective professional learning. Some sections are weighted to reflect the strength of the evidence base. Each section now has certain criteria that are treble and double weighted, so as to highlight to schools the most important aspects of CPD your organisation should be focussing on.

The full audit is based on the same framework as the digital audit.

The audit is comprised of three elements:

  1. An online self-evaluation form completed by the senior leadership team.
  2. An online, whole-staff survey to examine perceptions and attitudes of staff (anonymous and including support staff).
  3. A visit to your organisation from a TDT Network Officer and a peer-auditor (another TDT Network member organisation) to conduct a series of interviews and discussions with staff members around their experiences of CPD at the school.

Using our rigorous CPD Quality framework, we provide an overview of your current situation according to “Emerging”, “Bronze”, “Silver” and “Gold” levels. Our framework is deliberately comprehensive, and we expect most schools to achieve emerging or bronze on entering the Network. There is a significant emphasis on the quality of research, evidence and evaluation methods used, and the framework is underpinned by a vision of staff members leading their own professional learning through collaborative enquiry processes.

Following on from the visit to your organisation, a report is produced to highlight key strengths and areas for development. We encourage this to be shared with staff, and to be used to inform any future planning of CPD. This report also forms the basis of our follow up actions to support you to move your CPD forward.
