TDT Expert Advisor, Sharon Ealing gives thanks to a fantastic teacher for National Thank A Teacher Day 2022.

Thanks to Mrs Hitchco, one of my Primary school teachers, she was the first to inspire my love of reading. We had very few books at home and very rarely heard stories, so she would always tell us the most marvellous tales.

The Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton was the book that she shared with us, and it was the book that encouraged me to want to read more. I loved the adventures at the top of the tree, and she would let us draw and imagine and write our own adventures. Needless to say, every class that I have taught has been introduced to this wonderful book. I’m now passionate about teaching reading and sharing stories, particularly with children who have very little access to books of their own. As a teacher, it is one of the most important gifts we can give.

National Thank a Teacher Day is on Thursday 26th May and is dedicated to all the schools and colleges at the heart of our communities, from the teachers helping us make sense of the world to all the wonderful support staff keeping things running.
