About the role

The Teacher Development Trust over doubled its annual turnover last year and is expecting to do the same in the next financial year. We currently support around 50 schools through our network and are expecting to double this in the near future.

The Chief Operations Officer plays an important role in the growth of the organisation reporting directly to the CEO. The role will include managing the operational delivery of the existing programmes, development and strategic direction of the organisation including supporting organisational growth:

  • Ensuring that the existing quality of delivery of its programmes is maintained and improved as the organisation grows.
  • Monitoring the impact of the Teacher Development Trusts programmes to ensure that each programme is achieving its aims.
  • Working with the Development Director to develop new programmes.
  • Working with CEO, experts, advisors and two programme managers to ensure continuous improvement of existing programmes.
  • Ensuring that the Teacher Development Trust is able to meet the demand of its progammes through appropriate talent management planning and resourcing.
  • Ensuring that the organisation has the appropriate systems, and processes to support the organisation manage its activities
  • Responsible for monitoring organisational budgets and monthly reporting to the board.

Key Responsibilities

NTEN Programme and Good CPD Guide Programme

  • To give support and direction to the programme managers on the delivery of their programmes
  • To understand what schools, providers and other stakeholders expect from each programme and ensure that TDT continues to meet these expectations.

Quality Assurance/Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Review and monitor the organisation and programme KPIs to ensure that they remain aligned with the mission and continue to deliver impact to schools, teachers and their pupils.
  •  Oversee delivery quality across all Teacher Development Trust Programmes
  •  Develop Quality Assurance frameworks and processes for monitoring all aspects of the Teacher Development Trust Programmes.
  •  Working with the CEO keep informed of the most effective practices of developing and implementing lesson study, quality professional development in schools and evaluation of these including the impact on student outcomes.

Organisational growth and planning

  • Working with the CEO to ensure that that the organisation is appropriately planning for future growth.
  •  Responsible for recruitment of staff to deliver the organisational programmes.

Organisation operations, systems and procedures

  • To establish systems and structures that will support future growth of the organisation across HR, Finance and other areas as agreed.
  • Responsible for managing the organisation’s facilities including negotiating contracts.

 

Personal Qualities and Experience

Essential

  • A strong commitment to education, the non-profit sector and improving educational outcomes for children.
  • Experience of successfully line managing and developing teams to meet organisational goals.
  • Experience of managing organisation wide projects and diverse workload
  • Experience of managing multiple work streams
  • Knowledge of the current educational landscape
  • Experience of developing Quality Assurance Frameworks, monitoring, evaluation and reporting
  • Excellent communications skills (verbal and written), and ability to build relationships with all stakeholders
  • Strong strategic, organisational and time management skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt in a fast paced growing organisation
  • Experience of successfully building and managing external relationships in a previous role

  • Salary £45,000 – £55,000 dependent upon experience
